One of the great products launched at Google’s recently held “Launch Night In” has to be the Chromecast with Google TV. Google’s streaming dongle has received a most radical upgrade. And, the biggest changes are not just about the dongle’s new capabilities, it is also about its new companion – remote. Yes, this is one of the biggest changes that Google has bundled with its digital media player.
The remote is small in size and appearance-wise it is quite different from others in the competition. It has an angular shape at one end, easy to tell which side is up. Also, there is D-pad at the top for quick navigation. There are some dedicated buttons to quickly launch services like Netflix, YouTube, and of course, Google’s beloved Google Assistant. And the best part is the remote also allows you to remap a couple of those dedicated buttons and choose which service should get opened when you press them.
As tipped to AndroidPolice, if you want to remap the YouTube button to another related service then you can do that. Simply press and hold the button, and a menu will appear that lets you select your favorite YouTube app. As you would notice from the image provided, you can choose from the pre-installed YouTube app, YouTube Kids, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV.
As for the other button – Netflix, you can remap it as well, though with the help of a third-party app. The Button Mapper app comes to your rescue if you want the Chromecast remote to launch something else when you press the Netflix button. As per the app's description, you can launch any app shortcut. Also, you can remap the button to switch to the last active app or even disable the button altogether. There are a big bunch of actions that this app can perform. Head to the Android app link provided below and know more.
