Facebook has announced a bunch of new features for its Portal lineup of devices. The biggest addition is support for Netflix and Zoom applications. These are two of the most commonly used apps in the current scenario of staying inside. The team has further introduced a new remote control with dedicated buttons for quickly accessing these services.
Netflix will be available through Portal TV in all markets wherever Portal devices are sold. The users will only need to launch the application and sign-into a valid account to get started. They will be able to watch their favorite shows and movies from anywhere in the house. There is also a new remote with buttons for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Facebook Watch. It will be shipping with Portal TV and will also be available through stores.
Zoom has become an integral part of many lives ever since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. It has not only helped people stay connected with their family and friends but also hold office meetings virtually. It is an app that is even used for conducting job interviews. If you use Zoom regularly, you now have one more way of using it i.e. through Portal devices. These include Portal, Portal+, and Portal Mini in all markets where these are sold.
Portal users will now be able to control AR Effects in Photo Booth. The control can be done using the voice command "Hey Portal". These AR effects can be used on photos and videos that can then be shared with family and friends on Messenger. Lastly, the voice command now supports the Spanish (US) language. The team says more languages will be added in the future.
