It is about to be a month since YouTube rolled out Shorts as an alternative to TikTok. It is a new content-sharing format within the main YouTube app where users can share short video clips up to 15 seconds. These videos are currently available as part of the home feed as well as suggestions but going forward, they will have a dedicated place of their own.
YouTube has been spotted testing a dedicated Shorts button inside the main app. This button is present in the top left corner and just below the app logo. It is placed in the first position within the personalized topic suggestions row that appears at the top of the app. It is essentially a faster way of finding Shorts videos on the app and works similar to the Instagram Reels icon.
Tapping on the button will start playing a Shorts video that you can watch. If you want to browse more, all you need to do is to swipe up and you will continue getting new Shorts videos. This browsing experience is the same as what we have seen in TikTok as well as Instagram Reels. Whenever new Shorts will appear on the screen, they will start playing automatically.
This new YouTube Shorts button currently appears to be in a testing phase. Only a few randomly selected users can see it which is likely to be a result of a server-side flip. We will keep you posted as and if YouTube will expand the button to the masses.
