Apple has officially announced as iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini as part of its newest lineup. It is the first-ever iPhone series with 5G connectivity, the next big thing in the phone internet connectivity. The product design of the new iPhone reminds of the iPhone 4 days which will be appreciated by the lovers of the flat design. There are two more models named iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The all-new iPhone 12 features an aluminum frame with flat edges and an overall smaller footprint. It is said to be 11% thinner, 15% smaller, and 16% lighter than the iPhone 11 from the last year. As many speculated, the iPhone 12 sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display aka OLED panel. It now offers a pixel density of 440ppi i.e. twice the number of pixels (2532 x 1170 pixels) than the predecessor. Other key features include HDR support, peak brightness of 1200 nits, Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR 10.

Apple teamed up with Corning to offer a new back panel material called Ceramic Shield. It is claimed to be tougher than any other smartphone glass but that is something that will need to be tested. Since iPhone 12 marks the introduction of 5G to iPhones, Apple has made tweaks for the same as well. There are custom antennas and support for most 5G bands on a phone. Even iOS has been optimized for 5G where Smart Data Mode will automatically switch to the LTE network when high-speed is not needed so that the battery can be preserved.

As one would have anticipated, the all-new iPhone comes loaded with the A14 Bionic processor that was first announced with the new iPad Air. It is the world's first 5nm processor made up of hexa-cores and paired with a quad-core GPU. The neural engine now has double the number of cores than before i.e. 16 cores. Apple has announced League of Legends game will land on iPhones later this year.

There is a dual-camera setup on the back featuring a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor (f/1.6 aperture) and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor (f/2.4 aperture) with 120-degree FoV. Apple has expanded Night Mode support to all the camera sensors including selfie shooter as well as videos.

One of the new iPhone features announced at the event is MagSafe for iPhone. There is a magnet inside the back of the phone that can be used for snapping up accessories like a wallet case. These magnets will also be helpful in ensuring that the phone is placed properly on a wireless charging pad. There is a leather sleeve with a cut-out for showing a clock, similar to those old-school Samsung cases. And yes, Apple is officially ditching earphones and charging adapter with the iPhone 12 retail packaging. The decision is said to have been taken due to environment-related relations.

iPhone 12 Mini

The iPhone 12 also has a smaller sibling named iPhone 12 Mini. It is exactly the same as the standard version but is actually the "smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G phone" in the world. It comes with a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display with 2340 x 1080 pixels resolution. Other than this, you will get all the features and specifications the same as the standard model.

Apple has priced the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini at $699 and $799 respectively. Both of these will be available in Blue, Green, Red, White, and Black color variants. The iPhone 12 will go on pre-orders from October 16th and iPhone 12 Mini from November 6th. Both models will go on sale exactly one week after their respective preorder dates.
