Google made Pixel 5 5G smartphone official last month and it has now started to ship to early buyers. Some of the users have now complained that their Pixel 5 units have a gap between the display and the body. The gap is not big enough to reveal internal components but has raised some obvious concerns.
These users are worried that the gap could affect Pixel 5's IP-rated water resistance. This is because a phone needs to have internal components shut from any external access. Another issue with the gap is that it will start to accumulate dust over time. You can refer to the images listed below to see the gap for yourself.
The gap is seen on the punch-hole side of the display panel in most cases. Another important thing to note is that the issue seems to be more widespread in Black color units as compared to Sage Green. The good thing is that it seems like the Pixel 5 gap is a result of a manufacturing defect. The users have reported noticing the gap after the unboxing which should help them get it fixed without paying anything.
Google is yet to comment on the issue but we can expect it to make an official statement on the situation sooner than later. Nevertheless, it is a user experience that one should not have to face when paying a premium price. We can only hope that Google will take care of the issue as soon as possible.
