MagSafe wireless charger for iPhone 12 also works with few Android phones

21 October 2020 0

Apple's newest iPhone 12 lineup comes with support for a new series of accessories MagSafe. One such accessory is the new MagSafe wireless charger that looks like any other wireless charger. It is essentially a Qi wireless charging pad but comes with a magnetic disc that helps its snap to the iPhone 12 and offer up to 15W wireless charging speed.

The main purpose of the magnetic disc is to eliminate situations where users end up placing their iPhones on a wireless charging pad in a wrong alignment. This results in slower charging speeds but with magnets, the MagSafe charger will always stick at the center of the iPhone's back. This magic of magnets was initially supposed to be exclusive to new iPhones but as it turns out, it is not true.

As spotted and shared by Android Police folks and YouTuber ZolloTech, the MagSafe wireless charger works just fine with a few Android devices. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy S20 FE along with Google's Pixel 5 are the devices that have been found working with the Apple accessory. One should not be surprised if we end up discovering more Android phones compatible with th functionality.

An important thing to note is that since MagSafe wireless charger follows the Qi wireless charging standard, it will charge any device as long as it is Qi-compatible. It is the magnetic sticking thing that is new to the charger and is getting checked what Android devices will work with it. This is the reason it is not compulsory to get a MagSafe charger for your wireless charging-capable smartphone.
