WhatsApp is enhancing its platform for small businesses so that the users could place orders and checkout right from the app.
Up until now, WhatsApp for Business users could only make a catalog of their products so that their customers browse through it and view selected products. But there wasn’t an option to buy those selected products from the app. Now WhatsApp is letting the businesses also attach an “Add to Cart” option, using which their customers can place orders as well. With the new addition to business messaging, WhatsApp has successfully fulfilled its long desire to be e-commerce as well.
With the help of a video, WhatsApp demonstrates how messaging a business should work in reality. A business operating on a messaging service should not only showcase its products through a catalog but also lets its users make purchases right from the same chat at the same time.
Presumably, these transactions would use Facebook Pay, which the company began testing with WhatsApp in Brazil earlier this year.
While announcing this new addition, WhatsApp touted that its research has shown that people prefer to message a business to get help and they are more likely to make a purchase when they can do so. WhatsApp believes this new feature will help many small businesses who have been most impacted at this time.
