Spotify on Android now allows login using Google account

Old login page

Spotify has announced that you can now login to the app using your Google account as well. Previously, the option wasn’t available and you could only login using three ways – Email, Facebook, or Phone number. Now, the new option “Continue with Google” has been added to the login page above the Facebook login option.

Spotify hasn’t made any big announcement around the same but has updated its support page to notify the users about the new change.

You can’t connect using an existing account to Google, which means if you already have an account on Spotify that you made using your email, you can’t log in using the same Google email address. Here’s what Spotify tells you, "if your Spotify email address is the same as your Google email address, you’re prompted to log in with your email address and password instead."

Spotify touts that login with a Google account is a faster and secure way. You do not have to fill in your credentials manually to sign up. You just have to click the “Continue with Google” and select your desired email address (if you have many Google accounts on your phone) and Spotify will create your account right away.

The addition might look small but it is a necessary step towards offering easy sign-ups. There are still many users who prefer to log in to apps using their Google accounts instead of Facebook or manual sign-ups.
