Sony has announced a new PlayStation App ahead of the PlayStation 5 launch next month. This new application is a complete revamp of the older version that was released for the PlayStation 4. The latest version not only has a new user interface but is also packed with new features so that you do not have to turn on your console for almost everything.
The first thing that you will notice right off the bat is the new PlayStation App UI. It is inspired by the new PlayStation 5 home screen UI that Sony showcased recently. The new interface has smoother animations and feels a lot more intuitive. The home screen gives you an instant overview of games that you played recently and your online friends are playing at the moment.
Swiping down from the top will show you a list of your online friends as well as access to messages. Yes, the new PlayStation App comes with messages integration which means you have one less app to install. All your messages from the PS4 times will be carried over to the new app. It even lets users create Parties and have a group voice chat with up to 15 friends.
The app further has native integration with the PlayStation Store. It means you will be able to browse the store as well as purchase new games and add-ons directly from the app. It even supports remote download functionality for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. However, next-gen console owners will also be able to launch games, manage storage, and delete unwanted apps/data through the app.
All in all, the new PlayStation App is the right step in the direction to bring remote control over one's console. It will help users focus solely on gaming when they boot their consoles instead of spending time buying games, downloading them or updates, and managing storage space. The new version is available for free on Android and iOS via Google Play Store and App Store respectively.
