WhatsApp has announced the release of a completely redesigned storage management tool. The new tool was under beta testing for quite some time but has now been made available for everyone. It is aimed at helping users get a clearer picture of what is taking up storage space on their phones.
The new tool will be accessible by visiting WhatsApp Settings -> Storage and data -> Manage Space. It will show you a storage consumption bar at the top. It will show you total storage space along with the space used by WhatsApp. It is followed by a breakdown of storage space consumption on the basis of file type like images, videos, GIFs, and documents.
A similar experience was already available on WhatsApp but it did not let users select the files/folders as per their preferences. They can now choose exactly what file(s) and from which category. It will even let users sort data on the basis of data consumed by each type. This way, you can choose to delete only those files that are consuming a lot of space.
WhatsApp will also show mostly forwarded files and text messages. They will be easier to browse and delete so that you can save precious storage space on your phone. This new storage management tool has already begun to roll out but is expected to reach everyone by the end of this week.
