Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi phones could come with Exynos processors

04 November 2020 0

When Samsung first started making Exynos processors for smartphones, it maintained its exclusive availability for the Galaxy lineup of smartphones. It started allowing third-party phone makers like Vivo and Meizu to make use of Exynos processors. Now, Samsung is reportedly considering expanding its portfolio of clients.

As per a fresh report from Business Korea, Samsung is interested in striking a deal with Chinese smartphone makers Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo. The first two OEMs will be signing with the South Korean tech giant for the first time. It is said that these brands will get access to low-end Exynos processors meant for entry-level and mid-range smartphones.

This is because Samsung produces a significant amount of affordable chipsets. It is now looking to supply these excessive units to companies beyond its own. It is further claimed that Samsung LSI (semi-conductor design division) has reduced supplies to its smartphone division due to low-profit margin rates. As for Oppo and Xiaomi, they are said to be interested in Samsung's proposal as Huawei's future is still in the air and they need more chipsets to match their manufacturing demands.

Samsung is currently busy preparing for the launch of the Exynos 1080 processor next week. It is set to be an octa-core processor based on the 5nm manufacturing process. The structure includes four Cortex-A78 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores along with Mali-G78 GPU.
