Instagram has announced another major change for the app that revamps the home screen layout. It has added Reels and Shop tabs right at the bottom and front of the home screen. These tabs will now be visible to you right from the moment you will launch the application.
The Reels tab will take users to the collection of Reels, a short video-sharing platform by Instagram to rival TikTok. Since TikTok is facing backlash in various countries and has even banned from India, Instagram wants to capitalize on the situation to become the best alternative option for TikTok influencers.
As for the Shop tab, it is a single place for users to browse through purchasable products and accounts that sell products. It will essentially show personalized recommendations, editors’ picks curated by our @shop channel, shoppable videos, new product collections, and more.
We’re starting to test different versions of Instagram’s home screen – when you open the app you’ll soon see a Reels tab and a Shop tab in one of these three layouts. pic.twitter.com/WLmjAwYwFW— Adam Mosseri 😷 (@mosseri) September 9, 2020
It should be noted that Instagram is actually testing different layout designs for Reels and Shop tabs. One of the layouts even puts the Post and Likes buttons at the top to make way for the new tabs at the bottom. You could be getting any of these new layouts depending on which one gets enabled for your particular account. If you use multiple Instagram accounts on the same device, you could even be seeing a different layout on each of those accounts.
