Zoom lifts 40-minute limit on meetings for Thanksgiving

26 November 2020 0

2020 has been all about the global COVID-19 pandemic and performing social distancing as much as possible to reduce the virus' widespread. People are preferring virtual meetups over physical ones and as a result, this year's Thanksgiving will be no different. The festival is traditionally about families getting together and having a delicious home-cooked meal but with 2020, nothing is normal..

In an attempt to help people celebrate the festival while maintaining being distant, Zoom has announced unlimited free video calling for everyone on Thanksgiving. It means whether you are from the United States or any other place in the world, you will not have to worry about the 40-minute limit during video calls. The limit is usually in place for free Zoom account users.

The free Zoom meeting window will start from midnight on Nov 26th and will last until 6 AM on Nov 27th. This is according to the Eastern Time (ET) zone and if you are from a different time zone, make sure to do the correct calculations to find the times as per your time zone. The time limit will get lifted automatically during this window and users will not have to follow any new steps.

Lastly, Zoom has introduced a new fall-themed virtual background for Thanksgiving. It can be downloaded for free from the official website by searching for "autumn". It should help you set the mood for the festival as you have a virtual meetup with your family and friends.
