Apple has announced a free display replacement program for iPhone 11 over the last weekend. It is meant to help iPhone 11 users affected by the touch response issue. Some users have complained about the situation where their units have stopped responding to touch input. This is undoubtedly a serious situation considering the iPhone relies heavily on touch input for functioning.
The official acknowledgment mentions that the faulty display module is to be blamed for the issue. It says that only units manufactured between November 2019 and May 2020 are eligible for the free iPhone 11 display replacement program. It is normal to expect most users would not know how to check their eligibility. This is the reason Apple has set up a dedicated web page on its official website.
The web page has a text box for users to enter the Serial Number of their iPhone 11 units. This number can be checked by visiting Settings-> General-> About on your device. If you are eligible, the next step is to visit an Apple authorized service provider for submitting the device. It goes without saying that you should backup your data before giving it for the service.
Apple also notes, "If your iPhone 11 has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair."
It should be noted that the free program is strictly for the iPhone 11. It means if you have an iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max affected by a similar issue, you will not be eligible for the free replacement.
