About a couple of months ago, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirmed rumors about his decision to leave the company that he built from scratch. He did not reveal much about future plans except for mentioning that he would take some rest before embarking on a new journey. Now, we have got our first news about what Pei might be up to next.
Pei has revealed that he has raised $7 million in seed funding for his next venture. He said the investment round was led by a number of people including his friends and private investors, Some of these personalities are Casey Neistat (YouTuber), Josh Buckley (Product Hunt's Chief Executive), Kevin Lin (Twitch co-founder), Liam Casey (PCH founder and chief executive), Tony Fadell (Future Shape's Principal and iPod inventor), and Paddy Cosgrave (Web Summit founder).
If you are wondering what exactly is Pei's next venture, you will have to wait some more. The official announcement does not mention anything about it, not even the name. He added that more details about the project will be shared in the early part of the next year. He does not specify exactly around what month but we can only hope that it happens sooner than later.
However, it is reported that Pei would be using the investment for various purposes related to setting up the venture. These include a new head office in London and team recruitment followed by financing research and development required for the project. It is safe to say everything is in a pretty early phase of development. There are rumors that the venture will be focused on audio products, at least in the beginning, but we will suggest you take this with a pinch of salt.
