Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 will not get MIUI 12 upgrade

10 December 2020 0

Xiaomi has officially announced four devices that will not receive MIUI 12 upgrade. These include Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A that were originally part of the release schedule. These devices were set to receive the upgrade in the second phase but that will not be happening anymore.

The announcement was made on the official Telegram group of the company. A short post was also shared on the Mi Community forum that alerts all users. The post does not offer a detailed explanation and simply cites "compatibility and performance issues" for the decision. It is hard to say exactly what made Xiaomi's software development team scrap these four smartphones.

As of now, each of these four phones run MIUI 11 based on Android 9 Pie. While Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A are two years old devices and it is not surprising to see they get left out, the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3 launched only last year. Xiaomi usually releases new MIUI versions for new devices even if it is unable to roll out a major Android upgrade.

Here is the official statement mentioned in the post:

"Hello Mi Fans,
Please note that the following device models originally included in MIUI 12 release schedule won’t be updated to MIUI 12 due to compatibility and performance issues.
Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6A, Redmi 6"
