UPDATE (December 29th, 2020):
The OnePlus 9 series is now rumored to arrive without a periscopic camera sensor. The upcoming flagship is said to arrive with a traditional telephoto camera sensor. A periscopic camera sensor helps phones to achieve a higher optical zoom range. It was seen in a few flagship devices of the year including the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The same leak further mentions that we will see many flagships ditching the periscopic camera sensor.

OnePlus' next-gen Android flagship OnePlus 9 has surfaced in a number of renders but for the first time, it has made an appearance as real-life images. The special leak is coming from PhoneArena citing an anonymous source and has been corroborated by various tipsters on the internet. The images give a good look at the smartphone from both the front and back sides.
The OnePlus 9 5G has a front-panel design similar to previous OnePlus smartphones. It sports a flat display panel with a punch-hole in the top left corner. There are slim bezels on all four sides as it has become a common design choice among OEMs. There are metallic frames (aluminum) on the side, the microphone is at the top, and the USB Type-C port along with the speaker is at the bottom.
The back panel is where you will start noticing differences. The biggest one is the camera module design which is now as recent Oppo smartphones. The module has two big camera sensors aligned vertically followed by a third small sensor. It has "Ultra Shot" branding which is another change. OnePlus is known for printing camera specs on the module but this time, it seems like it will highlight camera features. Even the brand logo is different but that is simply because it is a prototype design.
If we talk about tech specs, the leak claims that the OnePlus 9 5G will arrive with a 6.55-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and 20:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. There is said to be a 4,500mAh battery and will run OxygenOS based on Android 11 out of the box.
