Apple's new iPhone 12 lineup has emerged as the best-selling 5G smartphone in the world for the month of October. This is based on the ranking and numbers released by Counterpoint Research. It is an impressive feat by Apple as the current-gen iPhone models were available for purchase only during the last two weeks.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have grabbed the top two spots with a market share of 16% and 8% respectively. The Pro model costs a lot more than the standard variant which explains the gap in sales. Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is at the third spot which held the crown of best-selling 5G phone until the availability of 5G iPhones. It currently holds 4% of the whole market.
One of the reasons behind the iPhone's immense growth is that a good number of iOS users interested in moving to 5G were waiting for the launch to happen. Even though Apple ended up delaying the launch by a month, they were all ready to spend as soon as the new models hit the stores.
The report says that strong carrier promotional offers also played an important role in convincing buyers to go for 5G iPhones, especially in the United States. It adds, "All carriers were offering the iPhone 12 for $0 through a mix of the trade-in and unlimited plans.". Lastly, iPhone 12 models have the widest availability (140+ countries) among all the other 5G phones which are usually restricted to certain regions. This is something that must have helped Apple's cause.
