Telegram has announced a new update for the instant messenger that will change the way users interact with each other through voice. The team has added support for voice chats on Telegram. The experience is similar to other voice chat apps like Discord and is available across Android, iOS, and desktop versions.
As per the announcement, the Telegram Voice Chat feature will continue to work even if the user is busy doing other things within the app or even on the phone. It means you can choose to browse through other conversations, replies to messages, or work on any other app while you are also a part of the voice chat.
The feature supports both individual and group voice chat sessions. For each group chat, the app shows bubble icons to represent participants and shows an animation next to each icon to alert others about who is speaking at the moment. This will make it easier for recipients to know who is talking when and even how much louder. These bubbles and animations will be visible even if a user is part of the group but is yet to join the voice chat. In such a situation, there will be a "Join" option that will allow the user to join an ongoing voice chat anytime they want.
All the participants will have the freedom to mute and unmute themselves whenever they wish to do so. Telegram has even added a new overlay widget that will help users control different aspects of voice chat from any screen of the phone. It will eliminate the need for opening the Telegram app every time you would want to do something.
The good thing is that Telegram Voice Chat supports "a few thousands" participants. It means even if you have a group with a huge list of members, you can choose to have a group voice chat with all of them. There is even support for inviting people who are not part of the group already.
