Samsung Galaxy S9 is not in Samsung’s Android 11 One UI 3.0 roadmap but this does not mean it is also out of the league of getting some monthly updates. Samsung received all accolades in 2020 for rolling out some timely updates and it appears the company is maintaining its streak this year as well. Once again, Samsung was quick to roll out January 2021 security patch. Interestingly, it rolled it out to the phone line from 2018 first.
As spotted first by the folks over at SamMobile, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ phones in Germany received the January 2021 security patch first. The firmware version for the Galaxy S9 is G960FXXSDFTL1 and the Galaxy S9 Plus gets G965FXXSDFTL1. Reportedly, the update weighs only 113.48MB and it does not include any new software features.
If you are a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ user in Germany but you haven’t received a notification for the new update then you can manually check for it by navigating to Settings and look for Software update and tap on Download and install button.
It is pretty interesting that the Galaxy S9 series received the newest Android security patch ahead of any newer high-end phones from Samsung. We expect Samsung will soon bring the security patch to markets and other devices as well.
