Google is rolling out January 2021 update alongside the January Pixel feature update to its Pixel phones. The January 2021 update for the Pixel 3 phones and above bring many fixes and system optimizations. One of the most wanted fixes is the fix for the system sounds issue found in Pixel 5. As per the Pixel phone support page, Google has tuned and improved the volume of the system sounds in Pixel 5. Previously, users complained about the loud sounds while taking photos from the camera and screenshots even when the phone’s volume was set to low.
According to the notable fixes chart on the support page, there are fixes for other Pixel phones as well. The update brings a fix for issues causing speaker noise in certain scenarios in Pixel 4a (5G). There are further improvements for auto-brightness response in certain lighting conditions made to Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5.
There is a fix for the issue causing intermittent restarts in certain apps in all the phones, starting with Pixel 3. Similarly, there are further improvements for auto-rotation response in all the phones, starting with Pixel 3. The update also improved auto-rotate response and brought a fix for an issue that prevented users from making calls to some MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator) networks
The January 2021 security patch is rolling out for the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, and Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5. It brings patches for an improved framework, system, and media framework security.
Unfortunately, the Pixel 2 is not eligible here but Google had reportedly said that the phone is viable to get one final update. But currently, it is unknown what would be that last update.
The January 2021 OTA update is rolling out in phases for the compatible Pixel phones.
