Up until now, you might have seen several year-in-review videos and best gadget awards of 2020 in the tech industry. But the series is incomplete without the contribution of the famous YouTuber Zack Nelson from his channel JerryRigEverything.
Zack tore apart so many phones of 2020 and evaluated their worth in terms of repairability and durability. He does not put a label of repairability scores on the phones he rips apart but his videos give you a fair idea of where a phone stands in competition when it comes to strength and endurance. Now, in his latest video, Zack held the “Smartphone Durability Awards 2020” to let you know which phone stood first in his evaluation.
You can see all the phones he tested in 2020 lying on his table. All these phones had gone through a series of harsh tests from the YouTuber to check their endurance and withstanding power.
Zack gave the most repairable phone award of 2020 to Pixel 5 and he has got a reason for that as well. This is “mostly because the phone has 0 screws required to replace the screen. A skilled technician can remove the screen of the Pixel 5 in about 60 seconds.”
He further notes that there is a layer between the screen and the board on which internal components are stuck. This ensures you do not damage any component while replacing the screen. “It’s pretty cool how Google was able to engineer such an easy screen replacement on the Pixel 5.”
The least repairable smartphone of 2020 is Black Shark 3. According to Zack, Black Shark 3 is the most difficult phone of 2020 to repair. Zack has an interesting story behind this evaluation. You can check out the video from timestamp 1:40 to know about it.
Apart from assessing the durability score of 2020 phones, Zack also talked about the most innovative phone of 2020. He offered this award to Axon 20 that has an under-screen camera.
Zack has one more award to present and that is the most delusive smartphone award of 2020. Before revealing the name of the device, Zack explains what this category actually means. The term delusive means “misleading and kindly not truthful.” This is why the award goes to Pixel 5. Google advertised over and over again that the Pixel 5 has an aluminum casing. But Zack in his test found out this is pretty delusive as it is entirely not the case.
Below is the list of other phones that won awards in different categories –
- Best looking phone on the inside – iPhone 12 Pro Max
- Honorable Mention – LG Wing
- Least durable smartphone – OnePlus Nord
- Most durable smartphone – Pixel 4a
By the way, the intro of the video briefly talks about the milestones that Zack and his team achieved throughout the year 2020. That’s one more beauty of the video you do not want to miss.
