08 January 2021 0

LG has announced webOS 6.0 for its 2021 lineup of smart TVs. This new iteration of LG's custom software for smart TVs will be available for all OLED, QNED Mini LED, NanoCell, and Ultra HD models of the year. It has even showcased a new version of the Magic Remote that will come bundled with the upcoming smart TVs.

The announcement mentions that regular webOS users will be able to notice the differences straight away. The home screen has been redesigned to focus on frequently used applications. It will get updated dynamically to reflect your usage habits. It will also be helpful in letting you find your commonly used apps easily. The new UI will also offer content recommendations based on the apps and shows watched by you.

The new UI will take up the whole TV display for offering more details. It will show data about the content shown in the Magic Explorer search. It will show information about the actors involved in a particular show or movie as well as locations that are shown in that particular content. It also has a new "Next Pick" feature that will suggest to you what to watch next.

LG has also showcased a new Magic Remote claimed to offer "simpler controls when using voice recognition with multi-AI offerings of LG ThinQ, Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant". It also features dedicated buttons for quickly accessing Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ along with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The remote features NFC connectivity and a button called Magic Tap that enables connection with an NFC-enabled smartphone. It will result in convenient content sharing from the phone to the TV.

Park Hyoung-sei, President of LG Home Entertainment Company said,

"The latest version of our user-friendly open TV platform webOS 6.0 represents the most significant update since we first introduced webOS in 2014. With the new edition of webOS, LG is demonstrating its commitment of offering services, products and technologies that respond to the needs and wants of our valued customers."
