Netflix has been offering a mobile-only plan for quite some time and now, it is Amazon's turn to arrive with its own offering. It has announced Prime Video Mobile Edition as a mobile-only plan for Indian users. The major difference between the two OTT platforms' approach is that Amazon's plan is currently limited to users of Airtel pre-paid plans.
Amazon's Prime Video mobile-only plans start at INR 89 per month which is about $1.22. This plan is limited to a single user and can be used only for streaming on one device at one time. The video quality will be restricted to Standard Definition (SD) and can only be accessed through a mobile device. It is likely to be available through a tablet as well.
If you are an Airtel prepaid user, you can get access to Prime Video Mobile Edition through the official Airtel Thanks application. Another way is to visit any of the offline retailers and get your phone recharged with a relevant plan. The INR 89 plan also offers 6GB of data for a period of 28 days. All users will get a free 30-day trial to the mobile plan if they sign-up for Prime Video using the Airtel application.
There is another Airtel recharge priced at INR 229 that offers the Prime Video mobile plan along with unlimited calling and 1.5GB of data per day for a month. If you are willing to pay INR 349, Airtel will provide you with the complete Amazon Prime membership along with unlimited calling and 2GB of data per day for 28 days.
Jay Marine, Worldwide Vice-president of Prime Video said,
“India is one of our fastest-growing territories in the world with very high engagement rates. Buoyed by this response, we want to double-down by offering our much-loved entertainment content to an even larger base of Indian customers. Given high mobile broadband penetration in the country, the mobile phone has become one of the most widely used streaming devices. With the launch of Prime Video Mobile Edition we look forward to entertaining every Indian with our Exclusive and Original content.”
