Sony's track record of pushing out Android software updates has not been promising but in the past few months, there have been signs of improvement. It updated the Xperia 1 II to the latest Android version last month and now, the team has pushed the Android 11 update for Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 devices.
Both of these smartphones were supposed to get the update in the month of February as per the release schedule. In a surprising turn of events, the update is rolling out well in advance. It bears the firmware build version 55.2.A.0.630 which should become available for you anytime soon. The release is at least confirmed to have begun in Russia and South East Asia.
The detailed changelog for the update is missing for now but a few details have surfaced. It is reported that the update does not bring the new Photography Pro application that was released on 2020 Sony flagships. Even the stock camera app user interface has not been changed. The update comes with the December 2020 security patch which is not the latest one available out there.
The reported update size is around 1GB which is a pretty significant one. This is the reason we would suggest you connect to a WiFi network before starting the download process. It can be downloaded via cellular network as well but could result in unwanted data charges if you are on a limited plan. It is also advised that the battery level is at least 50% before you proceed with the installation.
