UPDATE (January 27th, 2021):
Apple is reportedly working on launching iPhone 13 series with WiFi 6E support. It is the newest WiFi standard claimed to deliver faster data speed, low latency, and high performance when compared to the widely used WiFi 6. If this comes true, the new standard will make the next-gen iPhone lineup one of the fastest WiFi connected devices. Another benefit of WiFi 6 will be a more reliable connection that can be an issue for some users.
Original (January 20th, 2021):
It was in 2017 when Apple introduced iPhone X and bid farewell to Touch ID biometric authentication. It was replaced with facial recognition tech named Face ID that has been available across all iPhone models except the iPhone SE (2nd gen). It is now reported that Apple is working on bringing Touch ID back with the next-gen iPhone 13 lineup.
Two of the well-known tipsters Jon Prosser and @L0vetodream have mentioned in their respective tweets that Touch ID will make a return on iPhone soon. They have not specifically mentioned iPhone 13 lineup in tweets but speculations suggest that the upcoming generation will likely be the one featuring fingerprint authentication.

A separate report from Bloomberg claims that while Apple will indeed offer Touch ID, it will not be your traditional fingerprint scanner like we have seen in older models. It will be opting for the modern tech of under-display fingerprint scanning which we have seen in various Android smartphones in recent times. However, the tech is under testing which means there is no surety if it will actually become available this year.
If you are wondering why Touch ID is making a comeback, it is most likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has led to everyone wearing a mask. It is for safety purposes but since Face ID relies on face detection, it is unable to work with a face mask on. A user either has to pull the mask down or enter the passcode. This can prove to be really inconvenient and that is why there are people asking for a Touch ID.
