Honor has launched its first phone since its split from Huawei. This is the much anticipated Honor V40, an affordable Android flagship. The aesthetics of the phone are enough to tell that V40 was largely developed when Honor was part of its former parent company. Nevertheless, the phone will still be regarded as the outcome of Honor’s independent efforts.
The all-new Honor View40 features a waterfall curved OLED display, where the screen size is 6.72-inch and resolution is 2676x1236 pixels. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 300Hz touch response. Also, the HDR10 support adds vibrancy to the display, thus improving the overall viewing experience. It is also TUV Rheinland-certified for AI adaptive brightness.
Honor V40 is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor and equipped with GPU Turbo X. The arrangement is further coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The phone gets its power from the 4,000mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging or 50W wireless charging. This support is the same as found in the Huawei Mate 40 Pro smartphone.
Coming to the camera department, on the back, the Honor View40 carries triple cameras. The primary sensor is a 50MP RYYB sensor that is 1/1.56-inch big. The camera supports 4-in-1 pixel binning for some better shots. The other two cameras in the array are an 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 2MP macro sensor. There is also laser autofocus that is placed right next to the single LED flash. The camera set supports 4K HDR timelapse photography and 1920fps super slow-motion video shooting. A 16MP sensor along with a 3D ToF sensor is housed inside a pill-shaped module on the front.
The Honor V40 runs MagicUI 4.0 with Android 10 underneath. It comes with support for a dual SIM slot, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB-C. Plus.
Honor did not make a mention of Google Mobile Services (GMS) that was snatched from Huawei during the US-trade ban. However, a recent report claimed that GMS could make a comeback on Honor phones in the near future since the company now works independently.
The price of the Honor V40 5G is 3,599 yuan ($556) for the 8GB/128GB variant and 3,999 yuan ($620) for the higher 8GB/256GB storage variant. It comes in Magic Night Black, Titanium Silver, and Rose Gold color options.
