Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon 870 SoC just last week and it is interesting to note that Motorola Mobility, a wholy-owned subsidiary of Lenovo grabbed the opportunity to be the first of the first race this time. In its natural essence, the Snapdragon 870 is an overclocked version of a processor that itself is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865 processor. It is built upon a 7nm process using which the Snapdragon 865+ processor is also developed. The Snapdragon 870 has Kryo 585 processing cores and Adreno 680 GPU cores. The CPU cores are clocked at the highest 3.2GHz compared to 3.1GHz in the Snapdragon 865+.
The processor configuration is coupled further with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 storage.
The Motorola Edge S features a 6.7-inch IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 2520x1080 pixels resolution. It comes with HDR10 support as well so you can experience bright highlights and dark shadows.
On the back, the Motorola Edge S has four camera sensors, where the primary sensor is a 64MP with an f/1.7 aperture and support for 6K video capture at 30fps, a 16MP ultrawide with phase-detect autofocus, a 2MP depth sensor, and a ToF sensor. The fingerprint scanner is not mounted on the back, instead, it is embedded into the frame of the phone.
On the front, the Motorola houses two cameras in two separate punch-holes on the display. One is a 16MP sensor and another is an 8MP ultrawide sensor. The Motorola Edge S has a massive 5,000mAh battery capacity with 20W charging support. The phone is also IP52 splash-proof and has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Motorola Edge S does not come with ZUI and rather run a new MY UI that is based on Android 11. The phone also has Samsung DeX-like capabilities that offer a desktop-like experience. when put in an HDMI dock.
Overall, going by the specifications on the paper, the Motorola Edge S looks like a pretty solid phone.
The Motorola Edge S comes in Emerald Glaze and Emerald Light color options. The price of the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is 1999 Yuan ($310); 8GB RAM and 128GB storage costs 2399 Yuan ($371) and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage costs 2799 Yuan ($433). In related coverage, before the official launch of the Motorola Edge S, a tipster named @yabhishekhd from India tipped that the phone will launch by the name Motorola Moto G100 (nio) outside China. Later, the renowned tipster @evleaks also stated the same and shared more details on the same via Voice.com. He also said the phone is going to have Samsung DeX-like capabilities.
