WhatsApp testing "Log out" feature to enable multi-device support

12 February 2021 0

WhatsApp multi-device support is something we all have been eagerly waiting for. It is one of the most wanted features from the messenger but the makers are taking much time to bring a better version of it for the users.

While we have reported this feature in development in the past, the true version of the same is still not available. We have been seeing reports on WhatsApp bringing multi-device support to its messenger app since last year. But the feature is yet to become a reality.

One more such version of multi-device support has been spotted, courtesy of WABetaInfo once again. As per the finding, WhatsApp appears to be testing a new Log out feature that will log you out from a linked device and allow you to link the existing account on some other device.

As WhatsApp features tracker points out the new change is seen in beta update 2.21.30.16. WABetInfo has made a small video to show the demo of this new Log out feature.

Till now, WhatsApp only allows you to uninstall the app from the existing device or alternatively, delete your account in order to unlink the device. But, uninstalling the app may lead to data loss if it is not backed up. As described in the WABetaInfo’s report, the Log out option replaces Delete account or linked devices, “but their plans might change, moving/copying the option in the previous Linked devices section.” The blog post reports that according to its tests, the feature works without issues on both WhatsApp Messenger and Business versions.

The report further points out that multi-device support is being implemented in two forms, one for WhatsApp Web and the other for different linked devices. The first will allow users to use WhatsApp Web without the main phone needing an internet connection. The second will allow users to link their WhatsApp account with up to four different devices. This also does not require an active internet connection on the main phone.

For now, it is unknown when this log out feature that enables multi-device support will become available.
