Microsoft Surface Duo Android 11 update may arrive this summer

15 February 2021 0

Microsoft Surface Duo might not be receiving any updates that could remove creases from it, but reportedly the device is ready to get a major Android upgrade. According to Dr. Windows, Microsoft held a briefing where the publication was also present. In the briefing, people from Microsoft USA working directly with the Surface Do project reportedly explained that the Surface Duo is now scheduled to get the Android 11 this summer.

So, we still do not have an exact timeframe, but it is good to note that Microsoft has at least addressed the widely-known concern. Going by the slated period, it is likely that the Surface Duo will receive the update around June or July. So, technically, we are still 4-5 months away from the probable Android 11 release for Surface Duo.

Windows Central notes that Zac Bowden’s own sources can verify that the Surface Duo will receive Android 11 in mid-year.

The report from Dr. Windows further states that the collaboration between Microsoft and Google has improved over time and this allowed Microsoft to address certain dual display concerns and add them to the original code of Android. According to the report, Google also feels that this step will benefit other Android OEMs that are dealing in the same area and want to build devices with two screens. However, as the report points out, the full work is still not completely baked and the overall development will take much time to achieve the end goal.

When asked about the successor to the Surface Duo, Microsoft executives didn’t give any concrete reply, but the answer was linked to commitment.
