Spotify at its Stream On event made a couple of interesting announcements. But there is one more feature that didn’t get the spotlight. We are talking about Spotify Clips that showcases Snapchat/Instagram-like Stories. Well, this feature has been under testing for a few months and was available to select artists only, but now it seems the feature is being rolled out for every artist.
Spotify Clips feature debuts on Spotify playlists and artists can share short videos via this feature. The feature is pretty similar to what Snapchat and Instagram-like social media apps offer today
Spotify quietly launched the feature via a subtle tweet thread in which it posted its other main announcements as well.
We're introducing new ways for artists to use playlists to share their stories with fans ✨— Spotify for Artists (@spotifyartists) February 22, 2021
Spotify Clips will debut on even more Spotify playlists, featuring artists in short videos that let them put their own stamp on a playlist experience 🎥 #SpotifyStreamOn pic.twitter.com/sgHTWV244W
Spotify didn’t go deeper into the feature, given that everyone knows that everyone is aware of the gist of it. So, it is safe to assume that the Spotify Clips will live for 24 hours after which the content will vanish.
Alongside this, Spotify also announced that over 10,000 Indian artists have claimed their Spotify for Artists profiles since the service’s inception in the South Asian market two years ago.
The “Stories” feature that debuted by Snapchat first can now be seen on almost every social media app. Twitter is the newest to bring Stories-like feature to its platform. The name, here, given is Fleets.
Needless to point out, Spotify is not a social media app, so we as users who stream and listen to songs can’t create Spotify Clips. Well, this might change in the future if Spotify decides to incorporate more features.
