Microsoft is supposedly working on the second-generation Surface Duo device, this is apparent from a few job listings found on Microsoft Careers. The listing was first spotted by the folks over at WindowsLatest who later pointed out the intention of Microsoft.
According to the tech publication, Microsoft has removed a couple of job listings but some can still be found on the company’s Careers page. One of the job listings reveals what Microsoft might be planning for the next-gen Surface Duo. The job listing titled “SW/FW Engineer II,” describes the job responsibility of the new appointee, which includes “journey to create new experiences with Surface Duo” and they plan to enable 5G support to “fully express the Microsoft vision.”
This is evident from the listing that Microsoft is seeking individuals who have deep familiarity and understanding of 5G technologies.
Clearly, Microsoft is looking to enable 5G support in its next Surface Duo device, which is reportedly codenamed “Zeta.”
In another job listing, Microsoft is seeking a camera system architect/ engineer for its next Surface products who can “define and deliver great customer experience on” its “future Surface products.” It is pretty clear from the job description that the individual will be responsible for incorporating deep learning and AI features into the camera architecture. The individual will work with the camera application developers to deliver image processing features to the customer. This is evident that Microsoft is aiming for a “great camera” experience with its next Surface Duo.
The job description is also an indication that Microsoft might also be developing new Surface Duo apps that could benefit from the new camera features.
These job listings have given a good indication of what to expect from the Surface Duo 2. We are able to deem a few things from here and expect to get more insights on the same in the near future. Let’s wait for it.
