Google rolls out underwater photography, web app support for Pixel recordings

02 March 2021 0

Google Pixel phones have started receiving March 2021 Pixel feature drop alongside the latest Android security patch as well. The update brings many new features for the Google Pixel 3 and new models.

As described by Google in its official blog post, any can now share links to Recorder audio files for anyone to listen, even if they do not have a Pixel phone. For this, Google has launched a new site - recorder.google.com to let users can share, play, and search their audio with Recorder for the web. All the recordings backed up by the Pixel phone will be visible on this page and can be shared with anyone, even if the receiver is not using a Pixel phone.

Google Pixel feature drop

This is like backup support given by Google for your recordings. One can upload recordings here to easily access later on other devices. Once uploaded, users can transcribe and search within them by using any term that is present inside that voice recorded file. Thus web app which is like a companion app can play your audio clips along with the transcribed text.

Google first released this site last week, as spotted by the folks over at AndroidPolice. It was, however, half-baked at the time. Google started rolling out the backup support in the form of a web app a couple of days after publishing the website. Now, Google is being more vocal about the support and announcing it as part of the Pixel feature drop. This is just Google's way of announcing things formally to make them look more pronounced.

Google has also enhanced underwater camera photography when paired with the Kraken Sports’ Universal Smart Phone Housing. Google promises that users can use features like Night Sight, Portrait Mode, and Motion Photos underwater.

Smart Compose on select messaging apps on Pixel phones

Google has also announced the Smart Compose feature is coming to select messaging apps on Pixel phones. The blog post does not include the names of the apps, but it is expected to support WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Slack, Hangouts, Google Messages, among others.

Furthermore, there is now a new updated bedtime screen along with redesigned notifications for users who use the Pixel Stand and Digital Wellbeing’s bedtime mode. This feature is available on Pixel phones with wireless charging capability: Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, and Pixel 5.

Also, the update adds new wallpapers dedicated to International Women’s Day (March 8) designed by Spanish duo Nuria Bellver and Raquel Fanjul.

Alongside these new features, Google has also rolled out a security update for the eligible Pixel phones that patches some vulnerabilities. The bug fixes include chopped full-screen display issues on the Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and the Pixel 5. All Pixel phones get fixes for Android Auto disconnecting issues and heads-up notifications not showing for starred contacts in DND mode.
