Asus has officially unveiled its newest gaming smartphone lineup ROG Phone 5. There are three models named ROG Phone 5, ROG Phone 5 Pro, and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. It is a successor to last year's ROG Phone 3 family and brings a number of noteworthy visual, features, and specs upgrades. If you are wondering is ROG Phone 4, the company has skipped the number "4" as it is considered to be unlucky in a few Asian countries.
The ROG Phone 5 sports a 6.78-inch Full HD+ (2488 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. It offers up to 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with Adreno 610 GPU and support for 5G connectivity. The phone has multiple configuration variants featuring a minimum of 8GB RAM with 128GB storage and a maximum of 12GB RAM with 256GB storage.
The camera department features a triple camera setup on the back panel: 64-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with f/2.4 aperture, and a 5-megapixel macro sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The front camera is a 24-megapixel sensor with an f/2.45 aperture.
The phone has a USB Type-C port at the bottom and one on the side. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm headphone jack, dual front-facing speakers, HyperStream II Quad-DAC, Bluetooth 5.2, LDAC, aptX, and WiFi 6E. It will be running ROG UI based on the newest Android 11 out of the box. The whole package is powered by a 6,000mAh (2 x 3,000mAh) battery with 65W fast charging support. The color options include Phantom Black and Storm White.
Asus ROG Phone 5 pricing:
The ROG Phone 5 Pro has the same primary display panel as the standard model but it also has a secondary display on the backside. It is officially called ROG Vision that can be customized to show different animations. There are even dedicated settings for choosing when this second display lights up like when you receive a new notification or just when you have an incoming call.
The phone will be available in a single configuration of 16GB RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. All other features and specifications are unchanged. The Pro variant will be sold in a single Glossy Black color option. The ROG Phone 5 Pro has been priced at EUR 1,200 for the sole option.
The ROG Phone 5 Ultimate is a special edition smartphone with everything the same as the Pro variant but a few noticeable changes. The first thing to note is that it features a whopping 18GB of RAM. It is undoubtedly way more than what you will ever use in day-to-day life. The onboard storage on the variant is 512GB which is also a lot of space.
Another thing that makes it special is its unique Matte White color which is a head-turner without a doubt. If you want to get your hands on one, it will cost you EUR 1,300.
