It’s been reported a number of times that we will see a lot many foldable phones joining the existing ones this year. Some of the names of new players that have popped up so far are Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Google. Not many details on these upcoming devices are available but the reports on their existence have come on the surface numerous times.
Once again, the existence of a new foldable phone is uttered. A famous tipster Digital Chat Station recently posted on Weibo that Oppo could bring its foldable smartphone this year in Q2. This means we might see it coming somewhere between April and June.
Also, we believe, it might be possible that Oppo decides to introduce its foldable phone at MWC 2021 event which is scheduled to happen on June 28. Two years back as well, it was presumed that Oppo could bring its foldable phone at the stage of the MWC 2019 event but it didn’t happen. Oppo’s VP showcased the foldable design in February 2019, instead. But this phone wasn’t made available commercially.
Well, moving on, fast forward to today, we are deeming at some new opportunities. The details on the newly reported Oppo foldable phone are not available yet but if the tip is true, we might see an entirely new rumor mill starting all over.
The existing players who have already brought foldable phones to the market will continue to bring more offerings. Samsung is expected to go ahead with thin and light foldable phones, whereas Motorola and Huawei could try new form factors. Huawei recently launched Mate X2 foldable phone with an inward folding mechanism similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold.
It is being assumed that makers will continue to explore new form factors. But more than introducing new designs, they should also focus on making some budget and nominal offerings so that the new tech reaches more hands.
