Telegram adds voice chats to Channels to turn them into Clubhouse-like chats

Telegram Beta for Android newest update has unlocked many new features for the users who are on the beta channel. The latest version of the Telegram app is v7.6 and it weighs around 55MB.

The latest beta update brings many new features, but there is a feature that catches our attention more. We are talking about the voice chat in Channels that can turn your usual Channels into Clubhouse chats.

According to a Russian Telegram user Antonio Marreti who first spotted the beta update and reported via his channel, the new feature will let you create voice chats in your Telegram Channels. This tells us that Twitter, Instagram, and even Facebook aren’t the only platforms working on bringing a Clubhouse clone because Telegram has also joined the race.

Users can start voice chat by clicking into the three-dot vertical menu provided next to the Channel description. The feature works similar to how it works for group voice chats.

As per Marreti, the host can choose if they want to start the voice chat using their personal profile or from their channel profile.

Furthermore, listeners whose microphones are muted can raise their hands in case if they wish to speak in the voice chat as well.

Users who start voice chats on their channels can also record the session and share it as an audio file later. This way they can develop their own podcasts and share them with others who couldn’t participate in the voice chat. This is an interesting feature and in fact, an advantage over the Clubhouse app that is solely an audio-based social networking platform.

Apart from the voice chat recording, the new capability also lets you change the name of the voice chat. One can choose to create separate links for listeners and speakers as well. In addition to these, the profile description of channels is now displayed for voice chat participants.

The latest Telegram v7.6 beta for Android also adds more features to the app. One of them is the Chat swipe gesture that allows you to take quick actions on your chats available in your contacts list in the app. You can mark any chats as ‘Read,’ Archive them, Pin them, Delete them, and more right from the list. The options pop-up when you swipe left or right on any chat you wish to change. The new Chat swiping gesture can be found in the Chat Settings.

Telegram beta v7.6 also adds a slight improvement to forwarding flow. Now, when you click on cancel forwarding, the option asking you whether you want to send this to any other chat will pop-up. This saves us from incidents such as forwarded by accident; when the forward message is not intended to someone but we accidentally send them.

Also, it is now possible to greet a new contact with a sticker. Furthermore, there is now a new animation for sending voice messages to your contacts.

It is worth noting that the voice chat in Channels feature was first spotted in the Telegram for macOS v7.5. Later, it was spotted in the latest beta build for iOS with other features as well. So, it is safe to assume that soon Telegram will soon enable the Clubhouse-like voice chat for everyone on iOS, macOS, and Android platforms.
