A few days back LG announced its withdrawal from the smartphone business. The announcement didn’t really surprise us since so many speculations had made it apparent already, but still, the official declaration can really sway you. It is unfortunate and pretty sad that LG had to end the two decades of its smartphone business, but who can avoid the inevitable?
Well, moving on, LG is at least, committed to offering you OS upgrades for three years. LG has promised to offer three years of Android updates to all premium phones despite exiting the phone business. In a new announcement, LG claims to have pledged the OS upgrade so to delight its existing users even if it is bidding adieu from the smartphone industry.
LG has announced that the three OS updates guarantee applies to LG premium phones released in 2019 and later. These include G-series, V-series, Velvet, and Wing. Also, certain 2020 models such as an LG Stylo and K-series will receive two OS updates.
It is interesting to note that LG is making such a bold promise to its customers. LG didn’t really offer timely OS upgrades while it was in the smartphone business. But now that it has taken an exit, we believe the company will be able to shift its entire focus on making the latest software and security updates available to the said devices.
Those who have missed the LG announcement last week should know that the company will wind up its mobile phone business by July 31, 2021.
