The mightiest of the recently launched OnePlus 9 series is reportedly experiencing overheating issues. Users have been complaining about the same using the OnePlus community forum. The cause of this issue is unknown but according to several filed complaints, the issue persists particularly when using the camera app.
According to a forum thread that has now grown big, the OnePlus 9 Pro device overheats whenever users shoot 4K videos at 120fps. Some are even encountering the issue when shooting 4K videos at 60fps.
The overheating during 4K120 recording happened inside, with 22°C room temperature.
Another user reported,
My few hours old OnePlus 9 pro is heating at 44-45 degrees while charging. In normal usage, it reaches up to 41 degrees. Camera and all other apps are getting shut down giving a warning of overheating. Is it normal?
In fact, the issue is popping up when taking pictures.

This is the last thing you wanna see when ur out taking images. Barely took 6 images in 5 minutes and this message popped up “Unable to take pictures as the phone’s temperature is too high” 🤬🤬 pic.twitter.com/j9dXfp7mIk
The phone is even showing overheating warnings, making it apparent that the device is getting overheated. Looking at a number of complaints on the forum, it is clear that the issue is widely known and has expanded already.
Reportedly, many tech publications have reached out to OnePlus in order to know the status of the matter. OnePlus has reportedly acknowledged the issue and promised a future update to fix the issue.
OnePlus has seeded three updates to its newly launched OnePlus 9-series up until now. These updates have come in under 15 days of the launch of the phones. This suggests OnePlus is pretty active in fixing all sorts of issues; issues that even you and I do not know or have observed yet. We believe it might not take much time in releasing a fix for this overheating issue, considering the fact that the issue is attached to the camera app, and OnePlus has all praise for the new cameras of its OnePlus 9 series.
If you own the OnePlus 9 Pro device and have experienced overheating while shooting in 4K or just taking pictures then head over to this link and report the bug and let OnePlus know that more and more users are suffering from this issue and in dire need of a fix.
