Not so long ago, Redmi’s General Manager revealed that the company was prepping its first gaming smartphone. Fast forward to today, it is confirming when this phone will launch and why it is launching a gaming phone. Together with this, the company has also shared a couple of teasers that reveal a few other important aspects.
Keeping the name of its first gaming smartphone a secret, Redmi’s GM Lu Weibing revealed the reasons for launching the gaming device. The crux of the machine-translated post on Weibo tells that Redmi is aiming to offer a gaming phone at a budget. Weibing says today’s gaming phones are bulky and expensive and this is the reason Redmi wants to come up with a better contender.
Weibing claims the phone is going to be the “lightest and thinnest hardcore gaming flagship” on the market. Furthermore, in addition to making it a gaming-centric phone, the company has also considered the daily usability of the device, thus creating a perfect balance.
Now, the official teasers divulge even further and reveal what else is coming in a Redmi gaming smartphone. A teaser poster reflects the company’s partnership with Call of Duty Mobile for its phone launch. Together with announcing the partnership, Redmi also confirmed the phone will be released at the end of this month.
No other information can be gleaned from the provided teaser posters, but the past speculations had helped us to expect a few things. While confirming the existence of a gaming phone in January, Redmi’s GM also stated that the company is aiming to become the first company to use MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200 chipset. Well, this might not directly confirm that the Redmi gaming smartphone is using the aforementioned chipset but this is a good indication.
The smartphone is expected to sport a flat OLED panel with a punch hole for the selfie camera. It may pack a 5,000mAh battery with 65W fast-charging support. It is also expected to feature shoulder triggers and might cost between CNY 2,000 – CNY 2,500 ($305-$380).
