UPDATE (April 16th, 2021):

Sony Russia's website has spilled beans on the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III pricing details. These are expensive devices which is what we expected considering what they bring to the table. The Xperia 1 III is listed at a price of RUB 99,990 which is about $1,307 in American dollars. It is offering a free pair of Sony WF-1000XM3 wireless headphones as a pre-order gift. As for the Xperia 5 III, it will start at RUB 84,990 i.e. about $1,111. The pre-order gift with this phone is a free pair of Sony WF-XB700 wireless earbuds.

Sony at an event introduced its new Xperia phones – Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III. Once again, Sony kept its main focus on the camera while crafting these phones and at the event as well, Sony had all praise for them. Sony specifically is touting the “world’s first smartphone with a variable telephoto lens paired with a Dual PD (Phase Detection) sensor.”

Sony has added three 12MP sensors on each device. These are 16mm ultrawide, 24mm wide, and 70mm telephoto lenses. Sony claims the 70mm f/2.3 telephoto lens can reach f/2.8 105mm focal length, thanks to folded periscope lens design. This will help the users to achieve that extra telephoto zoom. Sony claims that two focal lengths are included in one telephoto module, complete with Dual PDAF sensors. So, when the switch happens, the focal lens unit and AF lens unit work together to focus fast.

Interestingly, both the primary and the telephoto lens feature OIS. The Xperia 1 III and the Xperia 5 III can take photos at up to 20fps. They also support 120fps 4K in HDR. Additional software features include real-time Eye AF, Optical SteadyShot, and 4K recording at 120fps for those crisp slow-motion takes.

Both phones, Xperia 5 III and the Xperia 1 III feature triple rear cameras, a high-end Snapdragon 888 processor, and support 5G. Sony retains its design language while crafting these two phones. As evident, the two phones feature thin bezels on the top and the bottom. But they are tall and narrow and have small curves on all the angles.

Both phones are rated IP65/68 for protection from dust and water.
