Netflix has officially announced the arrival of a new feature called Play Something. It is the same feature that was under testing for quite some time and was referred to as "Shuffle Play". It is now rolling out to users around the world but is limited to Smart TV applications for the time being.
Play Something is a feature that works exactly the way you would expect it to. It gives you the ability to let Netflix choose a movie or TV show for you to watch. This is aimed at eliminating or at least reducing the time a user spends browsing different categories looking to find something worthwhile watching. The good thing is that instead of playing something completely random, the feature takes your preferences and past watch history into consideration.
It can choose to play something that you started in the past but did not finish, something you added to "My List", something you have not watched before but matches your interests, and maybe even something that you have watched already on the platform. If you do not like what Netflix has played or are not in the mood to watch that, you can simply use the feature again to get other suggestions.
The feature is currently available only on smart TVs but will be coming to Android devices "soon" There are no words on when it will be released for iOS devices but it should happen once it released on Android. We will keep you updated on all the developments related to the feature's expansion.
