Vivo has officially announced that select premium X-series phones will receive three years of Android OS upgrades. Vivo didn’t disclose the names of the eligible smartphones but did promise what its new commitment includes. According to Vivo, it is committing to provide three years of major Android OS upgrades and security updates for selected models launching after July 2021.
This means the upcoming phones that Vivo has planned to launch from Q3 2021 are eligible to receive three years of OS upgrades.
It is possible that we may get to learn about these eligible phones in the coming days. But if we have to guess, the upcoming Vivo X70 Pro+ is expected to be one of the upcoming phones. It is rumored to be powered by Snapdragon 888 processor with a 4,500mAh battery, 66W fast-charging support. The phone is also rumored to have a 1/1.28-inch sensor backed by Zeiss optics.
The new policy is applicable to eligible devices in European, Australian, and Indian markets.
Vivo also announced that premium X-series models that are not eligible will continue to receive “regular” Android security updates. These include the existing phones in the X-series of the lineup.
Featuring top of the line hardware, the X series flagship phones are built to last – and we want to make sure that our customers get software support that lives up to their expectations," said Yujian Shi, Senior Vice President and CTO of vivo. "We always innovate with the user in mind. With this pledge, we are making a promise to our customers that they will be able to enjoy a premium smartphone experience for an extended period and continue to benefit from the latest software features.
Vivo is following the footsteps of Samsung and HMD Global, both of which have promised to deliver three years of Android OS upgrades to their select phones. It is great to see that more and more OEMs are joining this bandwagon and understanding other important needs of its users.
