Asus has officially unveiled ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 Flip smartphones. Both of these are flagship devices but are clearly aimed at two completely different kinds of audiences. The first one is for those who are looking for a compact-size Android device that does not compromise on performance. The second one is a proper modern flagship with a bigger screen and size.
The ZenFone 8 Flip sports a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The panel supports HDR10+, 110% DCI-P3 color gamut, 200Hz touch sampling rate, and 700 nits of brightness. Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM. There are two storage options i.e. 128GB and 256GB but it also has a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion.
The phone has a triple camera setup on the back panel. It includes a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor with phase detection autofocus, and an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. The phone has a flip camera mechanism and hence the name. It basically allows the user to use the same rear camera setup as selfie cameras.
The whole package is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W HyperCharge fast charging. It should be noted that the smartphone does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Asus has priced the ZenFone 8 Flip at EUR 799 for the base model.
As we said in the beginning, the ZenFone 8 is a compact-sized smartphone. It has a 5.9-inch Full HD+ AMOLED punch-hole display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 20:9 aspect ratio, and HDR10+ support. The choice of processor is the same i.e Snapdragon 888 but there will be multiple configuration options. It will have RAM options between 6GB and 16GB along with storage options going all the way up to 256GB.
The phone has a traditional-looking dual-camera setup featuring a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). The other sensor is a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 ultra-wide one with dual-phase detection autofocus. The front camera is a 12-megapixel Sony IMX663 sensor housed within the punch-hole.
The whole package is powered by a 4,000mAh battery with 30W HyperCharge fast charging. The ZenFone 8 starts at EUR 599 which is limited-time pricing. It will actually be sold for around EUR 659 once this special pricing period gets over.
