Amazon has announced a new video streaming service named miniTV for Indian users. It is a free video streaming service available through the main Amazon application on Android devices. The team has partnered with various content creators, mostly from YouTube, to share their content on the app. This is a similar approach to Flipkart Video that was unveiled in 2019.
The main Amazon shopping app on Android now shows a miniTV banner on the home page. Tapping on this banner will take the user to the service. Its homepage shows a carousel of featured content along with various sections dedicated to particular shows. The bottom navigation bar has four tabs: Home, Comedy, Lifestyle, and Web Series. The service also has parental controls where you can choose between Unrestricted and Restricted modes.
Some of the well-known individual Indian creators that Amazon has teamed up with are Ashish Chanchlani, Amit Bhadana, Prajakta Koli aka Mostly Sane, Sejal Kumar, Malvika Sitlani, Shiv Shakti Sachdeva, Rahul Subramanian, and Aakash Gupta. As for popular production companies, the app has tied up with the likes of The Viral Fever (TVF), The Screen Patti (TSP), FilterCopy, and The Timeliners.
As mentioned in the beginning, Amazon miniTV is a completely free video streaming service. A user does even need to have Prime membership to be able to watch content available on the app. This is because it is in no way connected to the Prime Video streaming service. The app basically works as a curator of the content that is already available on YouTube.
