Sony PlayStation is a huge name in the gaming industry and is continuing its dominance in the console market with the release of the latest PlayStation 5. It is now reportedly thinking about expanding beyond consoles and has set its eyes on the mobile gaming market. The information is coming from none other than Jim Ryan himself, the boss of PlayStation.
Ryan said that mobile gaming is one of the options the company is looking at with the goal of business growth. He is betting on all the iconic gaming franchises and characters that have been developed in nearly two decades of the company's existence. It goes without saying that PlayStation will be able to attract a good number of mobile gamers with its mobile-focused releases.
Jim Ryan is quoted as saying,
"The content developed by PlayStation Studios these past 25 years has created a wealth of IP and provided PlayStation with immersive experiences that evoke emotions and bring players on a journey. We have been thinking about how players enjoy our content and have had some early success with experimenting with mobile games and apps to provide more choices to gamers.
"Mobile is just one of the areas we are exploring to reach millions of gamers beyond our platforms. PlayStation has a huge catalog of diverse first-party IP that can transition to smartphone gaming and complement our AAA games or live service games. We are exploring the mobile market with some wonderful PlayStation franchises so please stay tuned."
There will be gaming fans who would be thinking about seeing PlayStation games getting ported to smartphones and tablets. This is very unlikely to be true. It seems like Sony would be releasing mobile games revolving around those popular PlayStation games and characters. These are only speculations at this point as we do not have official words on what games we can expect to see and most importantly when. We will have to get answers to all these questions.
