It was earlier this year when Twitter announced Super Follow as one of its first paid features. It is aimed at allowing users to charge some amount from their followers and provide them with extra content in exchange. It did not go into details but thanks to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong (@wongmjane), we now have a good idea of the feature as it seems to be getting close to the release.
Wong has tweeted Twitter Super Follow feature will not be available for everyone on the platform. There is a requirement of having at least 10,000 followers to get this new feature. Other requirements include account holder must be at least 18 years of age and must have tweeted at least 25 times in the past 30 days.
An eligible applicant will have to select a category for his/her account depending on the kind of content they want to provide. There are numerous categories to choose from including "Adult Content". There is also a section to choose the platform that includes OnlyFans along with Facebook, YouTube, Patreon, and SubStack.
Twitter currently seems to have settled on two perks for those who will choose to be Super Followers of any eligible account. They will get a special label that will differentiate them from other "normal" followers. They will further get Bonus content in the form of tweets exclusive to them. The company has plans to add more perks in the future.
An exact release date for Super Follow is still unknown but it appears to be close. Twitter recently released the Blue subscription service in Canada and Australia. It is working on various other features including Tomorrow local weather service and Tip Jar functionality to help users tip their favorite content creators.
