Apple iCloud+ brings more privacy-focused features at the same price

08 June 2021 0

Apple has announced iCloud with enhanced privacy-focused features and named it iCloud+. These new privacy features include iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, and HomeKit Secure Video support. The best part is that these will be available for no extra charge i.e. with the existing iCloud subscription plans.

Private Relay is a feature that will be accessible through the Safari web browser. Apple says it will help users browse the web while being safe and secure. It adds that all of the data shared between the user's device and servers will be encrypted so that no third party can read it.

The official description for how it works is as follows:

"All the user’s requests are then sent through two separate internet relays. The first assigns the user an anonymous IP address that maps to their region but not their actual location. The second decrypts the web address they want to visit and forwards them to their destination. This separation of information protects the user’s privacy because no single entity can identify both who a user is and which sites they visit."

Hide My Email is a feature that works similar to what the name suggests. It lets you hide your original email address while signing up for newsletters or any new website or app. It is aimed at keeping your actual email address safe so that it does not get distributed everywhere. The users will be able to create and delete as many email addresses as they want.

HomeKit Secure Video support has been expanded to allow connecting more cameras. It will offer storage to users with end-to-end encryption protection. Apple says this storage will not count against their cloud storage capacity. And everything that gets stored on iCloud will get encrypted beforehand.
