OnePlus has made a lot of changes to smartphones since it released the OnePlus One in 2014 but there has always been one constant. Qualcomm Snapdragon has been the only chipset supplier for the company but that is reported to change soon. OnePlus is reported to be working on a phone with a MediaTek processor.
Digital Chat Station, a Weibo-based tipster, has claimed that the alleged OnePlus smartphone will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor. It is a premium chipset from MediaTek with 5G capabilities as seen on phones like the Realme X7 Max 5G, Redmi K40 Gaming Edition, and Realme GT Neo.
The leak further suggests that OnePlus already has a prototype in development for the phone. It is said to have a flat display like the OnePlus 9. The panel has a punch-hole in the top left corner for a single selfie shooter. It is reported to have a good screen-to-body ratio which means minimal bezels.
This is the second time we are hearing about a MediaTek-powered OnePlus smartphone. The first report emerged in March where it claimed the device to be a OnePlus Nord successor aka OnePlus Nord 2. It added that the phone would launch in Q2 2021 which is now closer to its end. It means if the claim is true, we should see the phone launch within this month.
