Google appears to be prepping a new Pixel Stand that will come with one major enhancement over the last year's. The existing Pixel Stand which is more than 2 years old doubles as a 10W wireless charger, a pseudo-smart display with Google Assistant, a Google Photos digital frame besides being a mere stand for your Pixel phone. Now, references to its successor have been discovered inside the Android 12 beta code.
As per the findings by the folks over at 9to5Google, a new wireless charging stand seems to be under development. They discovered some references inside the code suggest what the new wireless charger will be capable of. As shared by the publication, there are references to “fan count” and “fan rpm,” indicating the upcoming Pixel Stand will include cooling fans too in order to better dissipate heat from the phone and the charge itself. This further implies that we might see the second-generation Pixel Stand with faster charging, above 10W.
There are not any direct mentions of the power output in the code, so the exact details are still hidden. The publication, however, points out that the app appears to be preparing “profiles” for the fans, specifying how many fans should be running and how fast. They are able to deduce that these profiles will be used to speed up, slow down, or stop the fans altogether based on a variety of factors. For instance, the fans will slow down if you say “Hey Google” to listen to what you’re saying.
The publication also mentions that we might be able to manually switch the charger’s speed between “Auto,” “Quiet,” and “Power Boost,” where the latter means the Pixel Stand’s fans will spin much faster.
One more thing the publication was able to dig out is the codename “Luxuryliner.” For comparison, the 2018 Pixel Stand was codenamed “Dreamliner.”
It is possible that we might see the new Pixel Stand launching alongside the Pixel 6 this year.
