OnePlus announces deeper integration with Oppo for more resources

16 June 2021 0

OnePlus is “further integrating” its organization with Oppo. This is what OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau announced via a forum post. The announcement doesn’t go deeper into the details but does state that this move will give OnePlus additional resources to develop better products.

Well, the two companies have already been collaborating closely for some time now.

Last year, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took up the Senior Vice President position at OPLUS, a company that wholly owns Oppo and has a majority stake in OnePlus.

Pointing out the same in the blog post, Lau states that since then he is overseeing the product strategy of both OnePlus and Oppo. He also mentioned OnePlus has integrated a number of its teams together with Oppo to better “streamline operations and capitalize on additional shared resources.” And, seeing the positive impact of this from those changes, the company has decided to integrate further with Oppo.

So, the announcement seems more like an acknowledgment from the company where it also shares details directly with its consumers on what it is meant for the company as a merged company.

Lau mentions that this merger, which apparently makes OnePlus a sub-brand of Oppo, will not impact OnePlus as a brand.

Lau believes while this merger provides OnePlus the necessary resources, the company will continue to work independently. The post stresses that it is more about pooling the resources so that OnePlus operations could run smoothly. Lau points out that the merger will allow the company to bring faster and more stable software updates for its users.

The brand will continue with its product strategies, product events the same way as before. It will also take feedback from its users through the same OnePlus channels as before. “True to our Never Settle spirit, we want to continue giving you the highest-quality OnePlus experience possible.”

The company also sent the following emailed statement to Android Authority -

To better maximize resources and further position OnePlus for growth, we are in the process of further integrating some R&D capabilities within OPLUS, our long-term investor. OnePlus will continue operating independently and working to deliver the best possible user experience for existing and future OnePlus users.

As the publication points out, it is worth mentioning that OPLUS oversees OnePlus, Oppo, and Realme, so we might see the effects of this new integration across all three brands.
